The Amana AMSO22 microwave steamer can hold two full-size pans that measure 4 inches deep. One pan sits on the bottom while the other fits on a shelf that can be removed to accommodate deeper pans and taller containers. Its interior and exterior are made of stainless steel—a material that withstands heavy use and resists corrosion. Through the glass window in the pull-down door, users can monitor the food as it cooks.

The Amana AMSO22 steamer microwave has a touchpad system with the capability to cook food in four stages at the push of a single button. With 10 programmable memory pads, the unit can store 100 recipes, and the time setting can be programmed on the touchpad or set on the dial, with a maximum setting of 60 minutes. The system has 11 power levels, and there is a defrost setting on level two for frozen dishes.
